Hoosiers Movie Lesson Plan helps teachers show students you can never count out an underdog and that achieving shared success on a team is one of the best feelings in the world.

After completing Hoosiers Movie Lesson Plan, students will have a greater understanding of seeking excellence to be the best they can be, leading by serving, and focusing on fulfillment.

Hoosiers tells the story of the Hickory Huskers basketball team in 1950’s Indiana. The team becomes a Cinderella story as a tiny school competing in the single-class state basketball tournament. With the help of a new coach, the team and community discover the values of working hard, working together, and believing in themselves.

Hoosiers Movie Lesson Plan shows us that even if we consider ourselves an underdog, we can rise to the challenge and discover we have what it takes to be a winner inside of us no matter what the scoreboard says.

In order to complete these activities, students will need to watch the movie Hoosiers, which has a rating of PG and a run time of 1 hour and 55 minutes.

Each of our Leadership at the Movies lesson plans includes the following activities:

✅ Reflection: allows students to journal about one of the movie’s themes prior to watching.

✅ Analysis: questions and prompts to analyze the characters, plot, and climax of the movie.

✅ Practice & Discussion: a partner/group activity that takes the principles of the movie and asks students to take action and grow in their own lives.

✅ Extension: a RAFT (Role-Audience-Format-Topic) writing prompt to help students apply their new knowledge.

✅ Lead for Impact: challenges students to pinpoint how the hero of the story exhibited The 12 Fundamentals of Impact and then synthesize how they can apply the lessons to writing their own story.

WARNING: This is a DEEP LEARNING lesson plan to help students employ a LEADERSHIP approach to SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING.
